MEALS come good in Cup game

MEALS qualified for the Quarter final of the Cup with a 10-7 win over Real Doulton. In an entertaining fixture the league leaders managed to overcome valiant resistance.

MEALS' first league defeat of the season came against Real Doulton only a fortnight earlier so the desire to win was definitely there. That was shown in the first minute when Malby quickly opended the scoring with low left-fotted drive.

The scoring quickly changed hands, with three quick goals for both sides. Real Doulton's star striker Prietzel always looked lively. The match included the two best strikers in the league MEALS' Malby and Doulton's Prietzel who had scored 77 and 62 goals respectively.

By half-time the referee had allowed a dodgy goal for MEALS which the talented Kirk slotted away and the score was 6-6. Prietzel had scored five of those Doulton goals. Doherty was brought on in the 2nd half to nullify the Prietzel threat in any way possible.

The 2nd half was a more one-sided affair. MEALS, the league leaders, attacked through Malby, Kirk and Questier were able to express their dominance. Prietzel, shackled up front, was unable to score in the 2nd half. Without their main man Doulton looked less penetrative. Further goals for Malby meant MEALS ran out comfortable winners.

The win over Real Doulton came after a brilliant 4-2 cup win over 2nd place A.H.I.A.G. The 4-2 victory was a tough match and so the 2nd match resulted was much appreciated. Captain Mark Maughan was delighted after the game "We are pleased at Christmas break to qualified in the Cup two games early. And to be top of the league at the break is the perfect position to be in. We just need to recuperate and contnue to play strong football in the New Year".
